Myths about Creative Thinking

Much of the thinking done in formal education emphasizes the skills of analysis--teaching students how to understand claims, follow or create a logical argument, figure out the answer, eliminate the incorrect paths and focus on the correct one. However, there is another kind of thinking, one that focuses on exploring ideas, generating possibilities, looking for many right answers rather than just one. Both of these kinds of thinking are vital to a successful working life, yet the latter one tends to be ignored until after college.

1. Every problem has only one solution (or one right answer). The goal of problem solving is to solve the problem, and most problems can be solved in any number of ways. If you discover a solution that works, it is a good solution. There may be other solutions thought of by other people, but that doesn't make your solution wrong.

2. The best answer/solution/method has already been found. Look at the history of any solution set and you'll see that improvements, new solutions, new right answers, are always being found.

3. Creative answers are complex technologically. Only a few problems require complex technological solutions. Most problems you'll meet with require only a thoughtful solution requiring personal action and perhaps a few simple tools. Even many problems that seem to require a technological solution can be addressed in other ways.

4. Ideas either come or they don't. Nothing will help. There are many successful techniques for stimulating idea generation. We will be discussing and applying them.

My Opinion:
Creative thinking can be stimulated both by an unstructured process such as brainstorming, and by a structured process such as lateral thinking. In addition, creative thinking is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions.

  1. From thie artical,i realize that creative thinking can create many ideas.Problem can be solve by creative ideas.Because ways can be many,we need to find out the most suitable ways to solve the problem. To find out the ways,we can think that how the way process, what is the effect from the way,and is it the best way to solve the problem etc.we can olso share the problem to other people like family and friends. They can give more ideas and ways to solve it.in the conclusion, the more ideas you think, the more ways you can solve. In the end,the problem just can solve by using one way.

If you discover a solution that works, then it is a good solution. Besides, there may be other solutions thought by other people, but that doesn't make our solution wrong. So belief that we can solve all the problem by our own creative thinking.

  3. I'm not really agree about this article especially the 4th point-"Ideas either come or they don't. Nothing will help." I strongly believe that once we do not have any idea, we can get it from many ways such as shopping, drink a cup of coffee and much more. I believe that is many things can help us to get idea even a sweet.
