Faculty of Creative Multimedia

Faculty Creative Multimedia is a special faculty that it is very different from others faculty, where the course structure is unique too. It could be found only in Multimedia University (MMU) among all universities of Malaysia. Course structure included media innovation, film and animation, interface design, virtual reality and digital media; and Hollywood-style film making course will launch on 2012. These courses are different from the other universities where it does not teach only the creativity but the designing skill to fulfill the insatiable global need for information, entertainment and telecommunication by the technique of thinking, computing skills and business fundamentals. The innovations of multimedia of FCM changes constantly keep up the track of the global technologies changes. These innovations changes is the main point to keep up the trend, so FCM improving it by some events included the “FCM alpha week” to shows the result of design done by the students. In the history, the faculty of creative multimedia was the first courses that open in Cyberjaya campus. From the name of the university, we may know how important of FCM in the university. MMU is in Cyberjaya is all about the multimedia and this is also one of the reason that why Multimedia University is the top 7 university in Malaysia. The purpose of FCM have its own equipments to the students to learn about the flow of technologies in the world such as design studios, graphic labs, interactive labs, set background studio, animation labs, audio labs and so on to let the students used to know the multifunction equipment and the handiness of these equipment before they graduate. The Hollywood-style film making course is the first course launch by multimedia media among Malaysia. This course takes Multimedia University’s student to a different level of designers, due to the entertainment needs in new centuries. Content is the key to setting one from the others, so do the industries ideas. It has change from the very beginning – from traditional to modern ways, that FCM improving the syllabus each and every year. A very simple way FCM could keep up the trend through social network. Social network connect everyone from anywhere through the improvement of multimedia design, where it connects information and content as well. Lastly, MMU has obtained the name of top 7 University and first in all private University in Malaysia through the improvement and effort.

Creative Multimedia

Nowadays, creative multimedia can be seen easily anywhere. Digital, video, audio, animation, still images and texts are consider as multimedia; while in modern days, multimedia does not stands alone, but creative multimedia. The creativity of multimedia has made the global change towards a whole new era, where global people are force to follow up by new era’s atmosphere that has been surrounded by the technologies of multimedia. The product of “creativity” comes from scientific discoveries or great works of art as producing the new sense of feeling. The major theories of creativities interpreted the experience and knowledge to create a useful piece of framework. Where multimedia comes with the combination of different content forms; it act as a medium to transmit to an understandable language such a broadcasting or cinema presentation. The meaning of multimedia is taken from the invention of forty years work, the combination of text, graphic art, sound, animation and video. The innovation of multimedia has been familiar to a lot of people, where people could only see the best innovation of work because the data and information are too much, and it has been created multiply. It included all industries such as entertainment, commercial, engineering, art, advertisement or businesses consider as a part of the multimedia. The industries of 21^th centuries are moving towards another level due to multimedia. The creativity multimedia used by the industries make the economy to a new entry of modern age where it brings the economy to a peak in history. Entertainment has become one of the most popular industries where everyone would spend effort to, at the same time, it connect each other by creating a network to let everyone socialize with each other through the multimedia. This invention of creative multimedia has include the principle of design to balance the global changes, the proportion become even clearer to everyone and bring the rhythm to a new age, emphasizing point of view in everyone eyes, and unity creative multimedia with everyone. The technologies of the modern age, industries, entertainment, social and principle of design are all part of the creativity multimedia.

When we talk about creative multimedia, the first thing that came out from our mind will be media and innovation. There are a lot of colleges and universities also offered the courses which related to media and innovation such as graphic design, film and animation, media art and more. Media and innovation is already become a very important propaganda in the society, without innovation, the society will never step forward and only stay at the origin. Innovation can create things more effective and efficiency. For example the computer from the first generation until now 21st century had improved from a heavy, slow, low quality “square box” to a lighter, high speed, high definition of graphic and multi-function which make people convenient during this modern age. Besides that, innovation is also the creation of better or more effective processes, services, technologies, or ideas. Innovation is depends on the creativity of people and create something new to the society. In year 2011, Steve Jobs had created a new product and had improved the idea of the product of his company – i-Phone to the latest version i-Phone 4s which has more applications and function. It is also the top product of his company and there is always a reason for people to buy his product, they felt that i-Phone had bring up a wave of the trend and it is very convenient for the rush era. On the other hand, Steve Jobs’s ideas had create a wave of the trend causes many companies follow the trend and create something new – the smart phone, which is the combination hand phone and the idea of i-Phone. On the other hand, Japan is the most technologies countries where they the innovation of themselves and created a whole new different level from the others countries. Although mobile phone is a great inventions, but in these modern years, it is hard to transform to a higher level until i-Phone have become a popular product to the world. From the information above, it’s already proved how important of innovation could be and how it works. It is one of the important points in creative multimedia to lead people move forward and success in every industry. In additional, it is easy to improve an idea and create something new but in creative multimedia, we also have to use innovation to create something acceptable by the public; the market to achieve the aim of creative multimedia which is the ideas that must be get known and familiar by people and society. With that we only can improve our society to a more advance and more convenient in the future, even create a whole new digital modern era.

The technologies are growing fast that not a single person could keep up with the trend. The rapid increase of technologies has been discovered and predicted by David House, and it’s been call the moose’s law. The moose’s law describes as a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware that has been predicted the period of “18months” and is doubling the chip performance (the combination of effect to make transistors even faster). The transistor can’t support the invention of multimedia’s information that is created by the people themselves since a network has connected to a global, internet that are easily get the new data of one new invention or creativity. Technology is the making and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, systems. It creates an environment to everyone to make each and everything related to it, and is part of our life. It is the creativity of technologies that makes a better life style and easier work to save time. One of the main important creativity concepts for all inventors is to make multiple works at the same time. The creativity from most of the technology is to create a new matter by following the path of multimedia because multimedia has become much popular to everyone. Such as Japan, it is the most advanced countries in the world. Information age of technologies is where Japan began to separate them from the rest of the world. Japan improved created new industries like televisions, walk men and fax machines to the world. To create an easier and save more time equipment, Japan created the first emotion robotics that can understand most of the human languages and have emotion towards different situations. Although the robotics is not a great success, but the creativity give a very strong impact to global and change the world trough a future where Japan lead as the first. In addition, automobile and electronic of Japan is well known to the world. More advanced super computers are created by Japan too. This creativity of technologies brings a brighter future towards everyone and it automatically go through the track and create a whole new style of multimedia.

Moreover, we can see a big improvement with creative multimedia in film and animation. From the old time, the film is low quality, come out with black and white screen, always shoot movie at the same angle, the way that the actors play with and the effects that made in the movie is not enough realistic. Now, with the help of multimedia, film and animation had become much better. Graphic is clear and play in high definition mode, even some of the film and animation had improved to a better version which is 3 dimensional screen and awesome sound effects. This may lead audience to enjoy the realistic of the movie and feel more worthy for watching the movie. Besides that, the new generation of the animation also changed a lot, it becomes very interesting and sticks more to our real life. From the creativity of global, some of the story line for the film and animation is also brings out a lot of imagination for the audience to satisfy the desire of people towards entertainment. By the way, film and animation will improved to a more advance industry with the concept of improving creative multimedia.

Creative multimedia is very important to every industry; it is no way to success without creative multimedia. There are a few examples of industry that have been used creative multimedia for their works. One of the industries is journalism; they have used creative multimedia wisely from the olden days. The first journal is always talking about the war and government matter and this is the start of creative multimedia contact to the public. In olden days, although people create newspaper with black and white pictures and articles but it could attract people to read it and get know about it. Because of the creativity of people, the society get closer to the government and also easy get information from the other part of places by the journalism. Nowadays, global have many type of journalism and every country also have their major journalism. In Malaysia, some famous newspapers are “Berita Harian”, “Putusan Malaysia”, “The Star”, “China Press”, “Sin Chew Jit Poh”, and “Tamil Nesan”. They become so familiar to the public because of their creativity and intelligent. They are the good thinker who make changes and improve their outcome to attract more people to read and get know to their newspaper. Furthermore, there is no limited of the news reporting to the traditional outlets. Freelance journalists can make use of different new media to produce multimedia pieces for their news stories. It engages global audiences and tells stories with technology, which develops new communication techniques for both media producers and consumers. Common Language Project is an example of this type of multimedia journalism production. It is very important to create a new communication way in journalism because we have to catch up the pace of new era. Multimedia reporters who are mobile (usually driving around a community with cameras, audio and video recorders, and Wifi-equipped laptop) are often referred to as Mojos, from mobile journalist. Part to part of improvement give everyone get in touch with the news around global faster and easier by the help of journalisms, from the traditional way to a modern way.

Newspaper has become a traditional way to convey the latest news and information. Compare to the journalism, multimedia is now the famous way to convey everything. We can easily get know about the global news anytime or anywhere with the high speed internet access. Therefore, the generation now didn’t interested with the paper work anymore because they love to see nice and real things and they can get the news or spread out the news immediately with the high quality and interesting images from the web. Creative multimedia brings convenient to the global, it improved the multimedia to become a socialize community. One of the most famous recent online multimedia is Facebook. Facebook is an online socialize network, the creator of Facebook is Mark Zulgeburg, who could thinks a further vision and create it by using multimedia technologies to create a social network connecting everyone in the world. This strategy used as the same way of a product as mobile phone. Mobile phone is being used by the world where it connects everyone from anywhere and everywhere in the world. Due to the improvement of this modern era, people like entertainment more than any other things; therefore, both Facebook and mobile phone using these advantages to create entertainment on their own product. Before the production of Facebook, there were a lot of online social media try to connect to everyone, but is not as successful as Facebook, because some does not have entertainment or its not interested. So, to communize everyone by create entertainment needs of the global changes through creative multimedia is one of the best choice.

In nutshell, FCM has create a surrounded by technologies and handy equipments environment for the students to make them keep up the flow of the global changes, to improve not only the creativity, but the technique and skill to persuade and accept by the public. To create a new era and changes the world, very creative ideas are needed, so do FCM students are trained to be so. Technologies that are to keep up the global and innovation of modern era are taught to the students to make them able to create a new environment for themselves by the used of current multimedia. Students of FCM are the beginning of the new generation to make multimedia reached another peak in the 21th centuries.

RAnDOM WORd / IMaGe.. XD

Come to the last A3 exercise that we did in class,
which is a new method - RAnDOM WoRD/IMaGe.
This is quite interesting method but also a simple method which can bring us go further.
The task for this week is to Create a scary image or object that will instill fear among people throughout the ages.
"Wow!" is the first thing come to our mind,
how to create a scary image or object from a cute cute kitten????
But at the Last we also done by using our creativity and also think out of logic.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition is using two different subject to replace each other. Mostly both of the subjects are not related to each other such as abstract concepts, though it refers to physical objects. Juxtaposition is a stimulation of creativity to solve problem or design by joining the both object, and pursuit by confronting two unrelated object. The object chosen are mostly the goal or the problem to be solved taken in one hand and another hand selected randomly.

The creativity of juxtaposition also used the two concepts or objects from unfamiliar for others to make everyone familiar to it. There are some video below that show some of the photo that are unfamiliar to others and the concept or some theory that are related to juxtaposition.

David Macaulay: All roads lead to Rome Antics

He went to Rome and sketches a lot about Rome, not only how the building is, the lines, the shade, or the texture but the shadow and how their lifestyle was. He drew about scene and the situation that are happening on that time; how the historical of their culture live in their country. He even drew the details of lifestyle such as the waiters in a restaurant accidentally pour the plate of, and the top view of the city (the sky of Rome) that normally won’t draw by others.

Seth Godin: Sliced bread and other marketing delights

"Seth Godin may be the ultimate entrepreneur for the Information Age," Mary Kuntz wrote in Business Week. Seth Godin thinks new marketing ideas in the perspective of our digital age. His speech speak the words of a digital marketing, where no one’s really care about the spam or advertising that people did not care about. People do not care about things that they see every day, because that is too common and very familiar to them. So he taught advertising the way in an unfamiliar way to make a successful marketing. One of the good examples he tells is the purple cow. If everyone saw purple cow every day, it will be familiar and bored as well.

Gordon Brown: Wiring a web for global good

He is Britain’s former prime minister and became one of the world’s most experienced political leaders. He also pushed for universal broadband and a general increase in spending on science. He speaks about the war or protesters that can’t be seen or hidden. He said everyone is at a unique moment in history, that we are the first generation to change and create. There are many challenges that cannot be solving with just a country alone but global together such as global climate change that need global solution; that truly needed to re-create a global society.

Three of the video above have told the concept and meaning of juxtaposition where the meanings of juxtaposition were very wide. Juxtaposition also is a visual art, most of the time people need to visualise the image to understand. The simple example of contrast side of juxtaposition such as “it’s raining, but I am not taking umbrella”; it’s an unusual conflict.

Besides, we also create the poem by using chilli and have to related to love.

JUXTAPOSITION (ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE US THINK MORE CREATIVITY ^V^)

The another way to make us think more creativity is by the juxtaposition method.
this is also taught by our creative studies lecturer.

Invention, innovation, novelty and creativity

Invention is a composition of novel, device, or process. It can be said as a derived from a pre-existing model or idea; and it depend on the radical breakthrough. Inventions often extend the boundaries of human knowledge or experience. The skill or the novel that are in the same field may not be the same invention.

“Keep it simple stupid (KISS)” is the main idea that go through all inventors, eventually it is showing the idea of “less is more”. The simpler the invention or idea, is the best. The invention must not be invented due to the inventor but to the user, where everyone knows to use it easily.

There are some of the great inventions that create use by century till present, but some have been prohibit. Any invention does not consist of bad idea or good idea, good inventors or good inventors. The invention that create is depends on different situation on some users that may be well used.

The history of the Atomic Bomb is the one of the greatest invention ever made that used in World War II. Just before the beginning of World War II, Albert Einstein wrote to President Franklin D. Roosevelt told that uranium-235 which could be used to build an atomic bomb. Over the course of six years, the formulas for refining uranium and putting together a working atomic bomb were created and seen to their logical ends by some of the greatest minds of our time.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” by Leonardo Da Vinci. His hundreds of inventions and ideas had recorded in his notebook, but nothing had been built. This book of his has languished for centuries but some said the industrial revolution was set back two centuries because his ideas were buried.

Innovation is different from invention. Innovation is the pattern that turns an unsatisfied art work better and more effective by using the original product, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself.

According to the Peter F. Drucker, the general sources of innovations are different changes in industry structure, in market structure, in local and global demographics, in human perception, mood and meaning and in the amount of already available scientific knowledge.

In other words, innovation is the creation of better products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by the society. The process by which an idea or invention is translated into a good or service for which people will pay, or something that results from this process.

Basically, there are two types of innovation. First is to create new things, like things that can touch or hear or smell, and the other innovation is the development of new things, things that people can do. Such as computer programme, business process, biotechnology, industrial process, or even carried bricks. “Invention is the 1% inspiration, which is the easy bit; while innovation is the 99% perspiration, which is the hard bit” by Thomas Edison, where he is a great innovator. Therefore, innovation can be simplified as a simple definition, the transformation of an idea into something useful.

Innovation by businesses is achieved in many ways. One of the examples is the access of internet, where it changes over time to connect everyone from the world together. Facebook is the innovation of social network; it is the simplest linear model innovation that recreates to accept by the society.

Novelty comes from a Latin words means “new”, it is a state of quality of being new or unusual. It could also be express as a new being of art, such as abstract art. The innovation of novelty has made a novelty in patent law, which is to claim of the priority of an invention. It is to protect the invention of the inventor or their successor in title. There are two novelty, relative novelty and absolute novelty.

Relative novelty protect the invention for 6 to 12 months in normal, absolute novelty protect the invention forever to protect from the public that are written publications, sales, or public demonstrated. Nowadays, novelty law only use by some countries.

This unusual toilet serves a dual purpose: as a waste receptacle and as an aquarium. Many people have already introduced goldfish to the toilet, but usually that happens when they die. The word “creativity” consist of the word create, it means to create some things new, or unique, either it is physically or mentally. The ideas of creativity come from everywhere that are rich to everyone but the creativity within them have slowly swallow up by the environment in everyday life. When we are still a child, we think everything is possible and create things that are different from the others, although some are not effective, but the idea comes from oneself.

Before children start their school, what they know is what they see or hear or taste is the world of them and the creativity beneath them are unlimited; but when they start school, they will learn what is correct and what is wrong, that is what kills their creativity. Anything we could see is an idea or a creation either by Mother Nature or man made. When children try to avoid mistake, their creativity has going down; therefore, the patterns of everyday life has become 1 of the main reasons that kills people creativity.
